TAPWE- A Candid Indigenous Conversation Series - EP.4 Relatives on the east side

Join us, December 21st, 2022 @ 5pm PST.

This conversation will focus around our unhoused relatives, poverty, addiction and ways people are bringing hope to one of the most notoriously hard places to survive- Vancouver's Downtown East Side.

Addiction and poverty are nothing new to our communities. What are the solutions? In which ways can Indigenous people decolonize treatment and addictions? How do settler allies help? How do we keep eachother safe in places where crime, drugs and harships are common place?

Joining us is Elder Patrick Stephenson ( Pakayagun) to share his lived experiences of poverty, addiction, homelessness and ways he's found compassion for himself and others struggling with trauma. A traditional knowledge keeper, Patrick is known for his gentle and honest approach to speaking and sharing. Patrick will offer us a unique insight into ways trauma, poverty and intergenerational pain shape our lives as Indigenous people.

Join us as we talk about ways colonization has played a role in the continuation of enforced poverty, ways addiction inflicts our communities and what it means to move from surviving to thriving. Let's talk about how communities like DTES are shaped and how Indigenous methods of well-being can offer hope in dark places.
