#representationmatters: An Indigenous Art Exhibit

We are seeking Indigenous youth artists from both the Greater Victoria and Greater Vancouver area who are male, female, non binary or two spirit to apply.

Over the course of 6 weeks artists will create a minimum of one new piece of artwork that will be presented in an exhibit in both Victoria and Vancouver over the months of October and November 2020. This is a paid opportunity.

Over the course of 6 weeks Indigenous youth artists will also have weekly access to mentorship from both established artists and elders.

#representationmatters: An Indigenous Artist Exhibit” will be an art exhibition highlighting indigenous youth artists and photographers in Victoria & Vancouver, based on the prompt of Representation Matters. Representation Matters is a hashtag and phrase that has gained increased social media significance over the past few years. As the phrase suggests, #representationmatters is meant to convey the importance of media representation for Indigenous peoples.

There is limited spaces available. Applications will be accepted until end of day Sunday August 23rd. We will be conducting interviews via ZOOM on an ongoing basis.

Artist Eligibility:

Must be of First Nation, Metis or Inuit ancestry

Must be between the ages of 16 to 35 years old

Must be available for an interview

Must be available for weekly group check in's from August through September via ZOOM
