COVID-19: Impact on People of Different Racial & Ethnic Backgrounds

On June 1 and 9, we hosted townhalls to discuss the impact of covid-19 on people identifying as Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour in BC. We discussed mental health, food security, finances, and more. While we had close to 200 people join on zoom, and a few thousands watch on Facebook Live, we heard from ignorant people who told us that covid19 hadn't disproportionately impacted racialized communities. "We haven't seen a single person of colour in the hospital with covid" some said.

BIPOC communities demanded race-based data and the findings show that our communities were indeed disporportionately impacted. We will be reaching out to the BC government with specific demands about how BIPOC communities can get specialized recovery support.
