SNIWWOC Presents: Women Supporting Women - 4 Week Grief & Grief Recovery Weekly Virtual Workshop for the month of March.
This 4 week virtual workshop will be co-facilitated through Zoom every Thursday for the month of March from 12 - 1:30 PM EST (Toronto) by Mental Health Support Worker, Michaella Shannon from the Support Network for Indigenous Women & Women of Colour (SNIWWOC), and Trauma Counsellor, Elaine Kicknosway.
Elaine Kicknosway is a member of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation in Northern Saskatchewan, and is Wolf Clan. She is Swampy Cree through her biological mother and Chippewa from her biological father’s side. She is a 60’s Scoop Survivor and returned home in late 20’s.
She has been a long time Community Advocate in the areas of Child Welfare, MMIW2SG, Healthy Families and Indigenous Women.
Elaine is an Indigenous Trauma Informed Counsellor & an Ontario Wedding Officiant, KAIROS Blanket Exercise Facilitator & Trainer, Indigenous Full Spectrum Doula, Traditional Dancer, Singer, Drummer & Carrier of Ceremonial Teachings.
Key Dates: March 4, 11, 18, 25 (2021)
Created for and geared towards BIPOC Womxn, each session will focus on one type of grief:
Session 1: Intro & Sharing Circle
What is grief? What is grief recovery?
What does Grief look like?
How do we identify grief, when to ask for help and where to look for help
Regular Grief vs. Indigenous Grief - How do we hold it?
Session 2: Relationship Grief, Leaving a Toxic Relationship, Heartbreak
Session 3: Death - Of a loved one, of a friend, of a parent, of a grandparent
Session 4: Loss in Addiction Recovery - Battling and Overcoming Addiction
Each registrant will be required to attend ALL 4 sessions in order to receive a Certificate of Completion. There will be one incentive given away to one lucky winner from the group whom will be announced during session 4!
When you REGISTER please get a ticket for every session (4) in March to confirm your full participation.
ZOOM LINK WILL BE PROVIDED BEFORE MARCH 4th, 2021.
Keep in mind that there are only 20 spots available so if you are unsure you can make it to all 4 sessions, please allow room for someone who can. All information and knowledge provided will be from an Indigenous perspective.
Please note that this workshop will only register Womxn participants and we ensure that this will be a safe and respectful space for all Womxn who participate. SNIWWOC agrees to protect the confidentiality and anonymity of all participants registered to the workshop, Women Supporting Women: Grief & Grief Recovery.
SNIWWOC also provides free one-on-one counselling for low-income women. We are aware that each topic around grief and grief recovery can be triggering so if you would like to request time with a counsellor please do not hesitate to email Michaella Shannon. She will set you up with a counsellor in your region (B.C and Ontario Only).
