Join us in the kitchen for SNIWWOC's first ever cultural cooking class!
We will be making the beloved Jamaican Patty from scratch. Sonjdra, our chef and event facilitator will be leading the class from start to finish. You will learn the secret to the perfect soft, yet crispy golden patty crust, and how to make a delicious and savory patty filling.
Have dinner with us on August 30th from 5:30pm-7:30pm!
Here are the ingredients that you will need ⤵️
Dough Ingredients
→ 4-5 cups of sifted flour
→ Tablespoon Kosher salt
→ 2 tbl sp Sugar
→ 2 tbl sp Curry powder
→ 1 tbl so Turmeric powder both for yellow colour and flavour
→ 3/4 cup suet (it’s traditional in Pattie’s but it’s beef fat, my local butcher sells it in convenient frozen pellets)
→ 5/6 stick of butter lol keep it all cold.. the fats will steam in the dough creating flakiness
→ Buttermilk about 2 cups a little less
→ Butter and suet at the end grated in for extra flakiness
Filling Ingredients
→ Onion
→ Garlic
→ Ginger
→ Thyme FRESH
→ Scallion (green onion)
→ Scotch bonnet pepper (can use matouks hot sauce)
→ Lean ground beef
→ Paprika
→ Dry thyme
→ Garlic powder
→ Turmeric
→ Curry powder
→ Browning (basically burnt sugar could skip but won’t gift colour)
→ Pepper
→ Soy sauce
→ Browning
→ Ketchup (I think things balanced with sweetness)
→ Beef broth (not shown)
→ Bread crumbs
→ Butter
