Representation matters because for far too long too few have held the surplus of power and decision making. Within the arts there is still the illusion of high and low art and gatekeepers who decide what is valuable. Representation matters because when we see ourselves reflected in community, in art, and in the public space we know that we have a place. We know that we are seen and our work matters.
