For Us, About Us: A Vaccine Literacy Campaign

This event is presented by Coastal Research, Education and Advocacy Network (CREAN) and Support Network for Indigenous Women and Women of Color (SNIWWOC).

Join us on August 26, as we meet with healthcare experts to discuss Covid-19 health care measures and the drive for information on Vaccines. This event is an opportunity to engage in critical conversations with medical professionals about vaccine safety and efficacy.

Dr. Alyson Ann Kelvin, PhD

is a virologist and vaccinologist at the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO) in Saskatoon, Canada. She holds an adjunct Professorship with the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology and the University of Saskatchewan. Her research focuses on the diseases caused by emerging respiratory viruses and the design of vaccines to prevent emerging virus infection. She is very interested in providing improved vaccines that can protect vulnerable high-risk groups such as older individuals, the young, immunocompromised, and underserved communities. She has previously been involved in international response efforts to emerging viruses with organization such as the WHO (World Health Organization). Dr. Kelvin currently contributes to the WHO Working Group on COVID-19 vaccines.

Anureet Lotay, PhD Candidate

is a community researcher and doctoral candidate at Uvic studying medical anthropology and the intersections of health and culture. She takes great pride in teaching in the community and in higher education with a focus on knowledge translation, simplifying health related topics, and dispelling misinformation.  Over the last 13 years, Anu has coordinated, contributed to and completed several qualitative and quantitative research projects across many disciplines including: health, media, housing, indigenous languages, and more.
