Women in Community Support: Jibs Abitoye

August Speaker Event.png

Join us on Thursday, August 5  for an inspirational discussion with Jibs Abitoye, Councillor, City of Fort Saskatchewan, who will share her story, career path, and decisions leading to success over the years. She will be also giving tips to BIPOC women who want to take on leadership roles.

Giving back was always important to Jibs from a young age, visiting orphanages and helping out the children. When she immigrated to Canada from Nigeria in 2012, it was easy for her to blend into the system and begin volunteering for the community. Within 6 months of arriving, she sat on 2 boards and was on the executive team of one.  5 years later, she decided to take her volunteerism to another level by running for city council in the city of Fort Saskatchewan, representing the vulnerable and under represented. She was deeply honoured to have the privilege of serving in this role for 4 years, where key decisions were made that affected the daily lives of citizens. Jibs is still relentless in adding value to and serving in her local community, and is up for re-election this year. She brings a wealth of knowledge as an Economist, Power Engineer and Project Management Professional with experience in the financial and manufacturing industries.

Jibs has also started a fashion business “Divineity by Jibs Inc.” with the aim of giving back in 2 ways. This fashion business empowers women in West Africa through employment, training, and mentorship. It also supports victims of domestic violence in Alberta, through donations and partnerships with organizations.Three months after starting this business, they had the privilege of showcasing designs in the prestigious New York Fashion Week, leading to additional media coverage locally and internationally.

Join us, to learn more about this absolute powerhouse of a woman and her campaign for success!
